NeST User Manual
Introduction
About the NeST
This manual describes the usage of the NeST hardware device. The NeST connects directly to your scoreboard or scoreboard controller and delivers real-time scoreboard data for use with your livestreams, websites and more. The NeST is available in 3 subscription tiers: Facility, Campus, and Travel.
Getting Help
If you experience issues with your NeST device, after reviewing this user manual and our installation recommendations, please reach out to us at support@scorebird.com or (844) 468-2473 (option 1 for support). If you have sales related questions, contact us at sales@support.com or (844) 468-2473 (option 2 for sales).
Important Tips, Reminders, Precautions
Only use the supplied 5VDC, 2.5-amp adapter. Using any other power adapter can damage the internal components. Replacement NeST are available through sales support for $150.
Connect the NeST to Ethernet or Wi-Fi. To connect the NeST to Wi-Fi, you must first get the NeST online via Ethernet or Wi-Fi and then use the Scorebird Admin mobile app or Customer web portal to enter Wi-Fi credentials. The NeST has a built-in cellular modem, and we DO NOT recommend its usage other than an ‘all-else-fails’ backup; since cellular data can be extremely unreliable in sporting arenas. Use of the NeST cellular option will skip data and could lose service.
The NeST must initially be connected to Ethernet to receive an update to its configuration, before Wi-Fi can be used.

Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Cellular Data
The NeST device relies on DHCP to obtain an IP address (ethernet and Wi-Fi). If you are unable to acquire an IP address from your network, here are a few considerations to troubleshoot.
E: The NeST device relies on DHCP to obtain an IP address.
W: To configure this option, you must 1st connect via ethernet in the ScoreBird Portal or the Scorebird app.
C: The NeST has a built-in cellular modem, and we DO NOT recommend its usage unless as the ‘all-else-fails’ backup since cellular data can be extremely unreliable in sporting arenas. The cellular modem should connect when the NeST is powered on, if not plugged into Ethernet or previously setup for Wi-Fi. Once on cellular, you can then setup the NeST to be on Wi-Fi, if you don’t have Ethernet access.
If you are unable to acquire an IP address from your network, here are a few considerations to troubleshoot.
MAC Address Filtering and/or Port Blocking
The NeST uses the following protocols and ports:
53 UDP – DNS
80 TCP – HTTP (software updates)
443 TCP – HTTPS (all encrypted communications and updates)
Domain Whitelisting: if your environment restricts access by HOSTNAME, whitelist the following:
Core Device Services:
a2u9gya9azl3fe.iot.us-east-1.amazonaws.com
System Updates:
ports.ubuntu.com
IP Whitelisting
We DO NOT recommend IP-based whitelisting. The NeST services are hosted on cloud providers (including AWS), where Ip addresses may change without notice. Best practice is to use hostname/domain-based whitelisting to ensure reliable connectivity.
Powering on the NeST
Connect the provided 5 VDC, 2.5-amp power adapter.
